Hungry For Peace, Day Two

September 22, 2009 By: Admin Category: Taylor Hanson

Day two, Headaches, Loss of concentration. The main thought I have as I go through my second
day of fasting is simple. It’s the feeling that I don’t have control.

Today, I cannot eliminate the hunger I have, I cannot bring focus to my thoughts,
I cannot circumvent the pounding headache….but my loss of control
is temporary.

I think to myself, the same cannot be said for a young mother, or a child
a friend, someone’s companion or caretaker. For them loss of control is a new way of life.

Thank you to everyone who has already responded saying they plan to join the fast and their
kind words. Let’s make it more than words, join FastDarfur.org

  7. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and this experience with us, Taylor. It really is inspiring, and I think that you and everyone else who is participating in the fast this week are doing something great. I did a fast once, but only for 24 hours, and more as a fundraiser than a protest or a call for action. I remember how difficult it was, and it really does make you appreciate the fact that you have such easy access to something as basic as food. We’re all so lucky, and most of the time we don’t even realize it.

I wish I had known about this fast before yesterday so that I could have participated from the start, but more than that, I wish that I had known more about the issues in Darfur. Obviously, I knew something awful was happening, I don’t think anyone who owns a TV or radio or computer can be ignorant of it, but now I am moved to learn more.

Even though it won’t be the same as joining in this fast, I plan to do a three day fast myself once I know more about this issue. Even though I already know this is a great cause, I want to educate myself about it properly so that when someone asks me why I’m fasting, I’ll be able to give them an answer that this cause deserves.

Thanks again for the inspiration, and like others have said, stay strong! You can make it! 🙂

  8. I am only ending my first day but your words have inspired me to go for a second day. Each time I feel hungry I think to myself wow.. I actually have the option to go eat something right now, and not doing it makes me feel like I am contributing to a great cause of awareness. Thank you Taylor! good luck with your third day tomorrow!

  12. My prayers are with you as you complete your 3rd day. I commend your effort in raising awareness and making a statement. I hope that you will receive some publicity for this so that others beyond your fans know about this cause and what you have contributed to it. I look forward to hearing about your experience on your third day and I hope you will write a follow up of what the feeling is like for you when you experience your first meal after your 3 day fast. It will be insightful for many of us who are thinking about joining this and have not done so yet.
In you I find hope for the future.

  13. Taylor, words cannot express how much you, and your brothers, and the music you make inspirer so many people around the world. Myself along with few friends have watched you grow from just pure talented kids into motivated and strong guided men. I look forward to seeing you in Ca in Nov. I hope I get the chance to Walk with not only great musicians but amazing, loving fathers, and strong husbands. I can only hope that you will continue to reach out to everyone you can. Lets all join in and help our brothers and sisters out we all know we can afford to.
My thoughts and prayers are with everyone who suffer tonight, may one day you know peace love and hope.

    Always yours,
    Meaghan

  15. Taylor,
The headaches are probably caffeine withdrawal for you. You probably should have weaned off coffee awhile before doing this. Your fasting is commendable. I have tried fasting once for like 24 hours and it drove me crazy… its really hard… I cant even imagine 3 days… or those that literally have no food on a daily basis in impoverished areas…. children especially hungry breaks my heart…
also, the journal is a cool idea, sharing your experience with us…you never cease to amaze me…
