Hungry For Peace – Day 3

September 24, 2009 By: Admin Category: Taylor Hanson

By the time this posts I will have crossed past the midnight hour where I am (CST), concluding my three day fast for Darfur. So many thoughts have gone through my mind today. I sit here under lamp light in my home office alone and in thought, humbled and quieted. I sit and think; there are so many of us, who have the power to do great things.

Greatness is not about being larger than life, greatness is found in the simple actions, in decisions made that don’t stand out on the front page, the choices we make when no one is watching in order to give us accolades. There is greatness in the people living in Darfur right now at this very moment. Some will eat tonight, many will not. Most are looking directly at a future without any signs of hope.

If you are like me, you can choose to put aside creature comforts for a few days and join a fast, who knows maybe that will be all you do, or maybe it will inspire a revelation in you. Thank you to everyone who has already pledged there actions to this cause, I hope to see that as my fast day concludes many others are beginning.

In a way Taylor, there are no words to say. I wouldnt want to patronise you.
But what stays with me about you and the route Hanson has taken, is the honesty, bravery and compassion. You dont have to care, but I think you really do and some kind of revelation continues to be inspired in you. Your humanity and willingness to grow into a deeper understanding and sharing of it are much to be loved. thank you.

  2. Your a strong man Taylor and I hope you were able to reach the hearts and minds of those you know as well as those who you don’t. You inspired me so i pledged to fast 24 hours a week every week until i feel i cant do anymore, I also plan on taking on more hours if need be. everywhere i go I tell another about your fast, mine, and the many others who chose to fast and about the ones who have no choice.
Let not make this our last fast!

    remember “We’re Mending Babylon”
It’s not going to be easy but it’s not as hard as it seems.

  3. it truly is sobering to think that although you were able to break the fast right at the end, there are people in the world who don’t have that choice.
“greatness is found in the simple actions, in decisions made that don’t stand out on the front page, the choices we make when no one is watching” what a great point. fasting isn’t about showing off to others our greatness, it’s about making a personal stand that will make us think about our own life and how we can help others, and in doing that hopefully we can inspire others to the greatness inside of them. bravo for making that stand! never forget the impact that you have on others!

  6. Taylor, you and Hanson are a source of constant inspiration… you encourage all who follow you to be greater people for themselves and the world. You have opened our eyes to so many things, and are therefore influencing the paths our lives, the way we are thinking, and how we choose to live.
I am honored to be a fan of such a band.
