A multi-platinum producer, songwriter, mixer and recording artist, James Michael has delivered chart topping projects across many genres for a diverse group of artists including, Mötley Crüe, Alanis Morissette, Papa Roach, Sixx:AM, Hilary Duff, Saliva, Scorpions, Meat Loaf, and Halestorm, among others.
In addition to a successful producing and writing career, Michael is co-founder and lead singer of the rock band, Sixx:AM, which garnered the No.1 rock track of 2008, “Life is Beautiful”. Their debut album “The Heroin Diaries Soundtrack” ranked in Billboard’s Top 200 Album chart for over 26 consecutive weeks, making it both a critical and commercial success.
Recently, James Michael produced, mixed and co-wrote Mötley Crüe’s “Saints Of LosAngeles” album, which debuted at No. 4 on the Billboard Top 200 Album Chart. Michael also co-wrote 4 songs and co-produced 6 tracks on the new Papa Roach album “Metamorphosis”, including the single “Lifeline”, a No. 1 track for 6 weeks at Active Rock and a Top 5 track at Alternative Radio. “Metamorphosis” debuted at No.8 on the Billboard Top 200 Album Chart.
The Cruefest DVD featuring Mötley Crüe, Buckcherry, Papa Roach, SIXX:AM and Trapt was mixed in stereo and 5.1 by James Michael and debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Top Music Videos Chart. In addition, the new Halestorm album , which was released by Atlantic Records and debuted at #40 on the Billboard Top 200 Album Chart and features “What You Were Expecting?” co-written by Michael.
Currently, James Michael is co-writing, producing and mixing tracks for Pretty Reckless, Taylor Momsen’s new band for Interscope, producing and mixing acoustic tracks for Papa Roach, as well as writing with It’s Alive for their upcoming album on Wind Up and developing the music and concept for a new Sixx:AM project.
James Michael grew up in the Midwest where he alternately embraced and rebelled against formal musical training. He briefly attended Columbia College, a fine arts school in Chicago, before heading west to Los Angeles where did a short stint in a group called Riverdogs, which had released albums for a major label and toured in Europe. After honing his craft and discerning his true style, Michael released his debut solo record, Inhale, in 2000 – having written, performed, recorded and mixed the album entirely by himself.
Having gained expertise in all areas of the creative process, Michael began co-writing and producing projects for other artists and signed a publishing deal with Warner Chappell. Clearly, Michael has developed a strong affinity for working across multiple genres and has successfully bridged the creative and commercial divide with a wide range of genres and artists without ever sacrificing the music.
