We in Oregon are talking together to set aside every Wednesday for some type of fast, indefinitely. This will be water only, refugee fast, one meal of fruit and yogurt, or other types of meal reduction or modification to remind us of those suffering and impel us to continued action

I am ignorant on such matters. How does a hunger strike help the people in Darfur? Would it not make more sense to raise food donations or money donations to help a country in such dire straights? Starving seems to only make one more starving suffering person in our existance. Enlighten me.

Yesterday on water only was very hard, but I did it! I’ve always stayed away from fasting because I always felt it was something I just couldn’t do. I love food too much. I always gave money instead. Well, what an experience. It threw me right into the experience, right alongside the Darfurians — right into the trenches with them.

I woke up at 4:00a.m and couldn’t wait to resume my liquid diet… Only to find out I couldn’t guzzle down the cranberry juice like I thought, so I sipped.

I am so humbled. This really is a great experience.
